How to Choose the Right Pigeon Net in Bangalore

Bangalore's rapid urbanization has led to a massive increase in the local pigeon population. While they might seem harmless at first, pigeons nesting on your balcony quickly become a health hazard. Their droppings are highly acidic, ruining paint and AC compressors, and they carry pathogens that can cause respiratory issues like Histoplasmosis.

HDPE vs. Nylon Nets

When searching for pigeon nets, you will commonly encounter two materials: HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene) and standard Nylon.

HDPE is generally the superior choice for outdoor balcony netting. It is incredibly strong, does not stretch or sag over time, and is waterproof. Most importantly, premium HDPE nets (like Garware nets) are UV-stabilized.

Why UV-Stabilization Matters

Bangalore experiences intense sunlight. A cheap, non-UV-stabilized net will dry rot, become brittle, and snap within a year. A premium UV-stabilized net will easily last 5 to 7 years without losing its tensile strength. Always ask your installer if the nets are UV protected.

Mesh Size and Color

For pigeons, a mesh size of 40mm to 50mm is ideal. It is small enough to keep the birds out completely, but large enough to ensure you don't feel boxed in.

Regarding color, many people mistakenly choose white nets thinking they will be invisible. In reality, black or translucent nets blend seamlessly into the shadows and the background skyline, making them the most aesthetically pleasing choice for luxury apartments.
